The exhibition Essential Furniture Objects displays a combination of furniture-like and sculptural objects. The essence of all the objects are their textural quality and history. Most of the objects are made from wood found in nature exposed to sun, wind and water. The focal point is the creation of objects appealing to the human need for aesthetic stimulation.
The expression and function of the objects emerge in the constellation between the materials and the processing hereof. In the processing the material is transformed into sculptural furniture-like objects, in compositional textural balance. At the same time the objects challenge traditional static constructions and place themselves in a field between design, art and craftsmanship.
The objects in the exhibition must, among other things, help to show our basic connection to nature and nature's essential significance to our existence.
The biological symbiosis of nature is not immediately visible to us humans. Despite this, nature's systems are significantly affected by man's intense consumption and advanced way of life, which pushes the biological condition of the planet to the extreme. It is necessary that we humans in the near future change our life and behaviour patterns to be in harmony and balance with the ecological resource capacity of nature.
The objects in the exhibition are made in an attempt to create an ‘ecological aesthetic’ - physical objects that aim to satisfy the essential need to surround yourself with aesthetic beauty – without burden to nature.
The beauty embedded in the degraded and rotten wood is used intentionally in the objects. With nature's degradation processes as the actual designer of the objects, there is an immediate appeal to something basic in our senses, which can facilitate an opening to the conscious awareness of the ecological aesthetics. In this potential field, the intention is to sharpen the awareness around lifespan and fine balanced biological contexts.
In this way, the objects in the exhibition are, in addition to being aesthetic exposures, a tool for the narrative of the bare essentials in life, including asking questions about what is a basic must for our existence and what really gives us inner satisfaction in life.
